Anything you can do, I can do better...

Minny has been avidly observing me practising my TtV technique lately and I think silently fuming that she has been left on the shelf. So today while I was experimenting with vaseline (oh yes, keep your eyes peeled for the journal to come on that little adventure) she absconded with my beautiful 1937 vintage Ikoflex!

Well…. she really did look kinda cute so I thought I would grab a snap for her portfolio ;)

  • Rhana GriffinRedbubbley Schweppervescence replied

Will you slap me if I say I haven’t the first clue who David Bailey is? Oh and I pretty much failed at the soft focus stuff… but I did get some cool effects happening! :))

And David Bailey is a famous, or shall I say infamous, photographer of Royal and famous musicians and film stars in England.

Splendid setup. Great camera. Did you really put Vaseline on a lens? A friend shoots through wax paper and bottles. Were you this imaginative and creative as a child?

  • Rhana GriffinRedbubbley Schweppervescence replied

Thanks Jan, and yes, it really is a beautiful camera. I am sorely tempted to try and hunt down some film for it just to see what kind o image it produces. It appears to be in fully working condition and I think I can just remember how to work with film ;)

I didn’t put vaseline on a lens exactly, but I did put it on a clear filter ;) Here is a little sneak peek for you…

As for being imaginative and creative as a child? Well, you would have to ask my Mum :))

hey sounds like Caroline knows who I mean… liberal slatherings of vaseline on his lens and lots of very soft focus very soft porn type of pictures of very young girls… it became his trademark although he did lots of other things as well… he was big in the seventies I think

  • Rhana GriffinRedbubbley Schweppervescence replied

He maybe knew John Holmes then ;) So I don’t feel as bad not knowing who he was, however I do remember a time not so long ago in the grand scheme of things where I had to google Ansel Adams.

    Now that was embarassing!!

  • Jan Timmons

    Jan Timmons

How fun! Have you tried portraits with that? Not porn on very young girls, of course.

  • Rhana GriffinRedbubbley Schweppervescence replied

I don’t do people very well sadly… and I have a distinct lack of models that are willing to let me experiment on them ;)

Well she’s an inquisitive little thing that Minny!! She looks very cute too and I think you should organise a shoot for her with some vaseline on the lens and get some pretend lensbaby shots, like Mel does with Miss Berty….......kinda like Miss Minny instead! ;)

  • Rhana GriffinRedbubbley Schweppervescence replied

What a wicked mind you have! But I reckon she would love that… little poser that she is ;) You may have to keep Manny away from the computer screen though!

Minny’s a little kleptomaniac, but she looks so attached to the Ikoflex… does she ever get any toys of her own?

  • Rhana GriffinRedbubbley Schweppervescence replied

Fun image Rhana, but what is the message? Are you saying that only wooden heads still use film twin lens reflex cameras?

  • Rhana GriffinRedbubbley Schweppervescence replied

Hell no! In fact, I wish I had the know how to actually be able to use one of these gorgeous camera’s with film instead of just TtV :))
