He was a skater boy, she said seeya later boy
My first Twin Lens Reflex camera arrived today wOOt wOOt!! A lovely little 1940’s Kodak Brownie Reflex in beautiful condition. So what did I do? I proceed to pull it apart and then wrap 100mph tape and cardboard around it to create my light blocking contraption so I could start experimenting with TtV photography!!
As you do ;)
Sorry Great Aunt Gladys! I didn’t break it though, just removed a little bit ;)
It is waaaaay more challenging than I thought it would be, and I think I may have developed an ebaying-for-tlr-cameras addiction in the last week but the results – when you get it right – are totally worth it, so all things considered I might stick with this for a bit ;)

Matt Penfold
Great work Rhana, your image and title are both fabulous but they seem to be a little at odds :-)
Rhana Griffin
replied
At odds? I’m pretty sure they had skateboards – and ergo skater boys – in the fifties? ;)
Matt Penfold
Oh yeah, I’m not suggesting that it’s anachronistic, just that they both seem to be out of their dancing gear and he ain’t gone anywhere ;-)
Rhana Griffin
replied
You know… I had to go get my dictionary then Matt ;)

You know Sals, I think that’s what I love the most about TtV. The whole “feeling” that washes over you when you view them. It’s like nothin else….

It was raining yesterday afternoon, so I couldn’t go out into the garden as I hoped so I had to get creative. This song had just played on (V) Tv :)

Rhana. I admit to using ttv textures off the net but hang on here, You did this yourself ? I must find out more, I dont think i could carry a contraption everywhere with me but to get some textures it may be worth it, Is this hard to do ? Excellent image BTW and i find those words familiar out of some song !
Rhana Griffin
replied
I’ve used ttv textures off the net too Ric, but this is pretty much straight out of the camera. A little bit of extra effort in the taking, but zilch in post processing time, which is great for me as I am enjoying being away from the computer a bit more. I wouldn’t say it is hard exactly, but definitely not as easy as point, compose and shoot. For one thing, everything is backwards! The results are very satisfying to the soul though… give it a go I say!
Zefira
great work

I’ve seen those shoes before!!
This looks great Rhana. How did you find the viewfinder size wise?
What I love most about TTV photography is that it evokes the feeling that you are looking through a little window, transported through time, like a portal to a faded/distorted memory, does that make sense?
Rhana Griffin
replied
The viewfinder size is fine doll. This was taken with my Samsung Dslr using an 18 – 55mm lens as my Canon is still with the Canon Gods and I don’t have a macro for my Sami.
And yes, that makes complete sense! It can make the ordinary seem extraordinary as it pulls it slightly out of time and space. Thankyou so much for being so damn good at TtV (did you click on my link in my desciption? ;) and inspiring me to give this a go myself. xxx
Kitsmumma
ps – hope you’ll enter this in the TTV “Shoe” challenge :D

Love this one … and top marks for teaching yourself how to do this! It looks like it was quite involved but with results like this, well worth the effort :)

adorable work, just amazing. Fantastic effect…. you’re so clever ( :
Sonia de Maced...
great result! congratulations ;-)
Ainsley Kellar
Extremely cool shot! Love the title, too. I am in awe of your technical savvy! I prefer “dummy mode” on my camera. Anything beyond that and I can be found weeping while wading through an instruction manual!!! :)
Trish Woodford
Just love this!! Great TTV image, love the red dots and such a great title :))

Excellent!

This is awesome Rhana! Perfect subject for viewfinder. You are so lucky to get one that is this dusty and grimy, adds so much to the look. Agree with you, it is a real challenge getting it right, but the rewards of a shot like this really pay off. Excellent!! :)
