Sweet Misery - Going Under
Nobody knows what thoughts go through anothers mind unless they choose to share them. Even then you are likely to get the censored, prettied-up-for-the-public version, a semblance of the truth perhaps with a shade of what lies beneath.
Behind this porcelain facade is a mind in turmoil… already halfway down the slippery slope of despair and almost beyond the point of no return.
And you never even knew did you?
Now I will tell you what I’ve done for you -
50 thousand tears I’ve cried.
Screaming, deceiving and bleeding for you -
And you still won’t hear me.
(going under)
I’m going under (going under)
Drowning in you (drowning in you)
I’m falling forever (falling forever)
I’ve got to break through
I’m going under

This is the first of my Sweet Misery Series. The images to follow are in no way indicative of my personal state of mind at present. I’m doing just hunky dory thankyou for caring =) This series has been inspired by the raw intense emotion of the My Chemical Romance song – I’m Not Okay and been fleshed out by feeling helplessly on the outside of the turmoil in the lives of some of my nearest and dearest recently.
This series will be short, but not sweet. A definate departure from the norm for me, and my first attempt at storytelling through my work. You may very well hate it, but it is something I needed to get out of my system.
The pretty stuff will be back soon ;)

You can see there is something wrong in this expression , it is the way the mouth is held and a lot of sadness in the eyes.
A great capture .
Paul Louis Vil...
Perfect expression to express inner turmoil.
Glad you’ve shared!
Look forward to more! :D

super angled portrait…. Great work. Title and picture together tell a great story!

Without going into the underlying meaning of things -
I like the deep expression – slightly vulnerable and sad, slightly fearful and expectant. A certain honesty comes through the photo.
Look forward to the rest.

I did not recognise you Bellababe…..My gods this is pensive and beautiful as you are….

Stunning but sad…..................there is no walls here, the viewer can see the pain and sadness.
Wonderful image….......thanks for sharing.

This is stunning, and although one feels the sadness, there seems to be an underlying “fury” that wants to boil over. Can’t wait to see more

You go for it girl! I think story telling through this medium is a powerful thing, and I look forward to your series!

There`s no color to your complexion. Whatever makes you glow is not there. That`s where I think the sadness comes from in this. It`s total preoccupation to the exclusion of that which gives you character and warmth. Which is why it is so disturbing to see you like this, even though I know it`s done intenmtionally to convey a mood… I guess you just pulled it off too well. Jeeze, even your stud is faded… Please baby, come BACK!

Not to detract from your mission, but you still look gorgeous.

This one is so provocative – i can feel the intense emotion in every bit of your face – i can’t work out if it is anger or sorrow or both (that’s a good thing as it shows the complexity of our emotions and these are the most complext – being happy is so much more straightforward and needs no questions really) – phew!!! It’s only 9.30am here and i am typing this LOL!!! Told you these were thought provoking :)

Well. All I can say is that your picture firmly compliments the opening lines of your commentary. If I ever were to stumble across a friend with a look on their face like this I would be like:
- 5hit – Something’s up – but will I get my head bitten off for asking;
- Who’s annoyed them and how?
I feel anger here. A real held in, volcano on the brink of eruption, anger just boiling away under the surface. Any wrong word and you might as well just help saddle up the horses for the apocolypse.
I get that, but as you say, the actual emotion could be very different. Could be really upset but wanting to share the grief for some much needed relief.
Sometimes you don’t even need to try to keep that poker face. As you say we have a tendancy to wear our happy face on our sleeve for public perception as much as we can.

steely, cold, angry….....you look like you’re plotting a murder to me, such an intense look. Great work Rhana, I’m loving this series.
Alan Rodmell
You definitely don’t look best pleased in this shot. Love the washed out contrast and colour. Nice work.

wow – this doesn’t even look like you, as in you are transcending so many looks and emotions… well done on this amazing series.. brave and confronting, love images that are deep and you have succeeded here.. great work… there is such an attractive quality to this image too!
richiedean
This is deep Rhan, I’d rather see you smiling :))

I find this one of the series oddly the most compelling – perhaps because you can just see the beginning of the descent, maybe because it is more subtle because she’s not yet in an extreme state – strangely beautiful this one Rhana. I know the point of the others is to honestly show deep anguish which they do very effectively – but for some reason I can’t put my finger on this one really draws me in.

The eyes are the window to the soul, this is such a powerful image, so much pensive apprehension. So much sadness and angst. This is a very disturbing mask you are wearing.

Amen…we can never really know exactly what is going on beneath the surface. What a brilliant idea this is. I’m off to look at the others now :)
