Dealing with a lost 'Spark'... by Belinda Leopold

Posted on January 13, 2011

So I’ve been dealing with the loss of my creative photographic juices now for a LONG TIME. It seems I have lost my ‘spark’….ideas seem lame or repetitive or copied….
I look at my 5D mk11 sitting there on my shelf..BRAND NEW…not yet used by me after SEVERAL months ownage, and think… what’s happened to me?? I feel anxiety when I look at old work still needing to be edited….and as I said before, have almost zero ideas, even though I have fully immersed myself in everyone else’s art and photography with utter glee, I am still failing to get my ‘phojo’ back.
What the hell does one do?

I’ve been doing other arty things again…which is great!!!! And I’m happy about that! But still…..no photos.
What should I doooo……???? :S

when it happens to me… i wait it out. try looking at pics i passed over before to see if i have a new eye for them. but nothing you can do until you find that something that sparks it. at least for me. sorry to hear you feel you’ve lost your phojo. maybe try something completely and totally out of the box?

  • Belinda Leopold:

Yes babe, I’m doing that…and kinda enjoying it…but still feel guilty :S
I’ve been busy designing and making jewellery, have gotten stuck back in to my poetry, and have attempted to do some pastel work….so I’m definitely not twiddling my thumbs!!! :D….I spose I’m leaving the best til last???? :S

Matey, what will be will be. I haven’t picked up my camera since september!!!! sometimes you just need to have a break, have fun doing other stuff. If you start worrying about it then you undoubtedly will be putting yourself under a lot of negative pressure.
A positive thing you could do is keep yourself involved in other art so you keep bubbling along and the ideas will come back.

but most of all DON’T WORRY.

    hugs

    Andrew xx

  • Belinda Leopold:

    Yes….MEGA BREAK :S
Yeah, a lot has been happening….and I always do put myself under a lot of pressure full stop anyway!!!
    Thanks luv! x

could be. i get that problem when i make jewelry. i’ll get on a kick and then i have to get rid of it all before i can make anything new. get stuck in a rut. hopefully you feel a little spark soon!

  • Belinda Leopold:

Ta sweet…I’ll just keep on keeping on what I’m doing and see what happens next!!!!! ;p

Don’t worry to much about it… it just mean you need some new impulses in your life, we all need…go out, breathe, dance, travel, discover new writers, try unusual movies, music you never heard… listen to your own feelings and emotions, they will bring you more inspiration than other people’s work… and buy a little notebook where you write all that crosses your mind… and when you go to bed at night just ask yourself : what was my idea to day ? I have dozens of such notebooks now and I never stop to read and reread them, they are my golden mine !!!
    Cheers
    D.

  • Belinda Leopold:

Thanks D…you are so right! I have my lil notebooks by my bed and main computer, and I’m constantly scribbling in them, no fear!! ;D
I just can’t help the guilt….I think because other people EXPECT me to be doing work…and here lies the main problem me thinks…..:l

Is your mojo back in flow? I find doing a bit of art history sometimes jumps you back into it, looking at their images, how they used colour, pose etc… sometimes it’s just a flash of colour or a look or some odd little thing and you are back up and running again. Though I know I used to do lots of photography and then somehow ended up loving painting more. I still ‘think’ about taking photos, but I’d rather paint. ;)

  • Belinda Leopold:

Hehehehehe…yes atm I’m enjoting using my hands to make arty things :D I feel so guilty because I should be taking photos…but I just stare at my camera and think “Meh!” ;D
