Geisha

Nicolas Rix

Geisha

A surrealistic piece I did ages ago. It’s possibly the illustration I’m most proud of. I had put a lot of time and effort developing this style for myself.

It borrows aspects of anime movie style illustration from movies such as – Ghost in the shell and Patlabor, aswell as every Hayao Miyazaki film.

It was hand drawn. I started with the Geisha then added the other elements separately similarly to how an animator might build up a scene.

Detail:

Geisha belongs to the following groups:

Illustrated Pinup, Japanfluence and Kimono Love Available for sale as

Greeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints, Framed Prints and Posters

this is just, amazing, is this in anyway influenced by anime/ manga?

  • Nicolas Rix

    Nicolas Rix

purgatoryartist – Yip, very influenced by Hayao Miyazaki and Katsuhiro Otomo Films. It’s not so much the fad of the whole anime/manga-ish stuff that influences me. It’s the film aspect and how they get there ideas across.

The animation style is used for motion/movement. By using this technique, that sometimes to others may seem simple and unskillful for illustration, is perfect for ‘implying’ motion. Your mind is associated with it being part of a moving picture. That is why ‘I think’ my stuff has movement, even in a still image.

I’ve always loved the blend of painted backgrounds with 2D characters. The visual effects they use influence me a lot. The use of coloring – the broken up tones has always intrigued me.
It’s was always a mimicking game at first, but it’s something I’ve incorporated because I love it so much. I want to be in love with my artwork.

    It’s something I’m working at perfecting…it’s exciting.

OK you come in a different class all together, you see your portfolio is the best I’ve seen so fare here on the bubble.
This is as pro as it gets, you don’t get better than this.
I dream about achieving this level of skill, but I think it will never happen, and especially when I see stuff like yours.
But on the other hand it keeps me going through inspiring me big time. That tend to make me forget my shortcomings as an artist, and to just enjoy….. thank you

Incredible artwork. You really manage to create a powerful atmosphere – awesome.

But after looking at your profile I would give you one piece of advice – ditch FL and get yourself a copy of Live – seriously! :)

  • Nicolas Rix replied

    Hey James,
I’ve got a Demo of Live, I still need to check out it’s features and what VST’s I can use with it. I’ve just always used FL since 2001 or something.

ok this is really cool, i love the deerskulls. most of the manga i’ve seen on the internet has been copycat fanboy stuff, it’s good to see such an imagination coupled with this style of art.

    Brilliant again.
Your colouring and linework is incredible fluid and well placed.
You must be ruthless with yourself.

  • Nicolas Rix replied

Yup, I am absolutely ruthless :) thanks for noticing
It’s not always a good thing as it slows me down. I could get out a lot more art if I was more care-free…
