Short stories - Spherical ScriptingsIt’s the first day of the ‘Grand Chess Masters Open’, and we are expertly put in our places on the sleek glass board. I stand on a frosted square, next to me my good friend the Clear Knight, to the right my Queen and Leige Lord, the King. We are all very excited for the tournament to begin, hoping that the upcoming battle will be one for the record books.
At long last the Pink and Brown Sausages intertwine and the battle begins. The Pink Sausages push a brave Clear Pawn up two spaces from infront of my Leige Lord. The brown Sausages quickly counter by moving a cocky Frosted Pawn one space up from infront of it’s Evil Queen. I groan silently at our poor Pawns plight; savagely trapped, unable to move forward, too proud to retreat. The Pink Sausages move another Pawn to join the first, just one space behind in defiance. The Brown Sausages are not the least bit detered, and they push another pawn to face our threat.
And so the opening moves are made, both the Pink and Brown Sausages use only the Pawns as if the have all the time in the world and this isn’t a war as old as time it’s self. It is irritating to stand tall and wait for the Pink Sausages to push me with in striking range, but patiently I wait. Our Clear side is the frist to draw blood, although a foolish move it was, as the Clear Pawn that had been infront of my good friend the Clear Knight takes the place of a Frosted enemy Pawn, one of the Dreaded Frosted Rook twins savagely sends him home to his maker. I silently cry out for the fallen pawn, swearing to avenge his untimely demise, patiently waiting to be unleased on the feild.
The Pink Sausages make another foolish move as they send another brave Pawn to her death, just as she claims the life of a Frosted Pawn, the Dreaded Frosted Queen steps forward to slaughter her, just as her mate. It’s as if the Pink Sausages are working for the enemy! They send another Pawn to it’s downfall, this time by the other Rook Twin. The Pink Sausages are feeding our troops to Death! Oh the outrage! I can do nothing but watch helplessly as the pink sausages attempt a trap of their own.
They selfishly send the Clear Pawn infront of our Clear Rook, The Left, foward one space. The first Dreaded Rook Twin moves savagely up to claim the poor soul. Outraged our Left Rook urges the Pink Sausages to push him forward to meet the enemy, and the Sausages comply! But then the Frosted Queen slaughters him needlessly as she angles in for the kill. Finally! The pink sausages push me on my angle to kill the ruthless Queen! Her blood flows freely, invisably, as she is carried off the playing feild, my silent victory call echos across the board.
The Brown Suasages concider carefully their next move then carefully move their remaining Rook Twin Back a space. To which the Pink Sausages Move Sir Kight, the Right, Infront of his neighbours guardien Pawn. The Brown moves an Unsuspecting Pawn directly into my line of fire, but instead the Pink moves Sir Knight to Capture a Frosted Pawn. FOOL! You have placed him at the mercy of a Frosted Pawn! Can’t you see? I think in dispair. And just as I fortold, the merciless Brown Sausages murder another of my good friends.
Unwittingly the Pink Sausages send another pawn to it’s death, the massicure seems endless, for every warrior we take they kill the same. Now the Pink Sausages send our Beautiful Queen to take a Pawn. All her grace and skill and they send her after a Pawn! Oh how disheartening! But I sense another trap being set by our bumbleing leader.
We watch silently as the Brown Sausages push a Frosted Pawn it’s one space forward, but instead of taking it the Pink Sausages move Our Queen forward a space, so she is perfectly aligned to put an end to the Frosted Knight standing beside his Bastard King. The Brown Sausages swiftly move said Knight to a position to kill our Queen, but she shows no fear as the Pink move her to another space out of immediate danger. So instead the Brown take another one of our brave Pawns, only to be crushed by the Queen he was stalking.
Next the Brown Sausages move another of their own Pawns up a space, and the pink move our beloved Queen back into the position she was before the threat of the enemy Knight. The Brown Moves the same pawn up one more space, as if testing the waters, and my Brother Bishop quickly disposes of it.
HURRAY! HURRAY! We have Won the Battle! That last move of my Brother Bishop has put the Bastard Enemy King into Checkmate! With our Queen in her postion he can move in no direction without death ensueing! HURRAY! HURRAY!
The Sausages intertwine once more, and then leave, but soon another set of Sausages come arround and replace us in our original positions, and the War begins again.
