It all started when I first saw this paing by Will Longstaff depicting the returning ghosts of the soldiers lost forever to Flanders fields surrounding Ypres (Ieper).
I sat and stared at this painting for what seemed like an eternity. It stole my breath away and made me cry.
Being from a Military family I knew the history of Flanders Fields and since seeing this painting,it was dream of mine to go visit this Monument that was so solemnly & beautifully painted in this artwork.
2011 was the year this came true for me. And even more important- we were there for ANZAC day!
Before we left I knew I wanted a photo that was special & commemorated such a personal goal being achieved.
That’s how I came up with this shot.
With a little help from some strangers-Aussie students, at 11:45pm ANZAC Day night- I went about creating my photo.
