*Solstice Fire*

_Written by Rob Beckett 8th May 2009 about our Solstice nights in a Barossa field under the stars drinking the finest wine with friends Carol & Erich and many more by the fire, into the wee small hours. What a wonderful life we lead. _

Solstice Fire
By Rob Beckett

Soft playful
Flowing flames
From nights
Cold grip released
Up rise to red
And licking tips
In frosty still clear air

And round them sit
The hearty souls
Embraced by winter’s chill
On year’s short day

With friends at hand
Our glasses filled
By deep
Smooth wine
And see the
Quick day gone
As the circle closes
To catch the ebbing glow

A year has slid
From under us
Since last
We gathered here
To eat and sing
And talk of life
On Solstice night.
