I have been an artist all of my life, but have previously in years past lacked the courage and marketing opportunities to go about being agressive about it until now. My skills are a combination of self taught methods as well as formal education via Art Instruction Schools of Minnesota and The Art Institute of Pittsburgh’s online division. In December 2008, I left the radiography (x-ray) profession in order to pursue art & design full-time. Currently, I am illustrating a children’s book and working on building up my own art & design business.
My works, subject matters, and styles tend to be very flexible, gravitating from intricate graphite sketches to detailed realisms of color, values, and line; from comic book type styles to digital styles. I am captivated by surrealism and photorealism works, and so tend to get a large amount of inspiration from subjects or ideas that prompt the same sorts of mysticism and intricate detailing. Humorous illustration and/or the combining of a serious image with a humorous tag line is another avenue of art that I find myself ‘drawn’ towards.
You will find that I sign my work in various ways; sometimes it’s “Rebecca J. Callicoat”, at other times it’s “Becky Callicoat” and sometimes simply “RJC” or “BJC”.
I am still currently building my main site- so when that is finished, I will provide a link to that also. Until then, enjoy my gallery here, as well as visit Callicoat Art & Design on Facebook. You may also view other works, etc of mine at www.zazzle.com/beckcalli* Thanks again for stopping by;)
