clouds for my pillow

With backfiring cars

just where my poor girl has gone
with her eyes of coal

his shell spider cracks
and all these useless horses
scatter whinnying

the goo is slowly leaking
into your handbag

his hand comes up and taps it
it circles the rim

i but go where you send me
the wind at my back

and two leather hands to plow
this ragged red earth

rides in it across oceans
to her final shore

crows gather under grey skies
the rain comes down hard

two hundred arms crook
the tram jostles on its tracks

i strip to my skin
and streak into the rainstorm
the wind rips through me

04-04-08
his fresh ears hunger
they savour every word
that falls from her mouth

05-04-08
all the king’s horses
cannot unbreak me or stop
these gingerbread tears

06-04-08
i’m riding the rail
with a hatful of strangers
hankering for pills

“you have brittle bones”
the doctor blinks twice
and wiggles her pen

mr bad news scowls
drums his fingers on the desk
pretends to listen

09-04-08
for him rain at night
for her dancing in the park
together apart

10-04-08
the gel goes on cold
dries hard and cracks when i stretch
this stuff better work

11-04-08

stuck in my head round and round
for five fucking days

frozen at chapter fifteen
