the haiku marathon (part 7)

14-07-08
winter streets buoy me
rain spiders on my windshield
august come what may

15-07-08
rainy day women
ah i understand now, bob
when it rains it pours

16-07-08
run to the city
you better run to the rocks
oh run to the sea

17-07-08
a house full of holes
the southerly wind creeps in
and rakes my numb bones

18-07-08
so many sad songs
but not enough cheap whiskey
to sink this old heart

19-07-08
ne’er forget me, girl
i will carve your stony heart
for my tombstone, love

20-07-08
librarian smiles
demagnetizes the books
stamps my ticket twice

21-07-08
catching up again
falling behind you, my friend
around and around

22-07-08
my mathematics
have stumped me once again
i’m two dollars short

23-07-08
i’ll send a card now
you’ll get it in a few days
complete with ink stains

24-07-08
yellow envelope
on my desktop this morning
what can it be now?

25-07-08
these backs weigh a tonne
filled with things i do not need
hiss like flags in wind

26-07-08
fifty more phone calls
just one more day past and gone
this chair has a groove

27-07-08
jazz radio plays
a homage to clifford brown
tea and toast for one

28-07-08
so much damn water
in a land that chokes of thirst
there, gone, out to sea

29-07-08
bazza the bunyip
voice like a pack a day man
scaly green spokesman

30-07-08
does she make me laugh?
no but then who does these days?
she amuses me

31-07-08
a warm cup of tea
cardigan and old slippers
and anzac biscuits

01-08-08
a fist full of cash
withdrawn from the wailing wall
lost and bamboozled

02-08-08
too many vouchers
with nothing on them for me
leave me feeling numb

03-08-08
tears on sale again
found myself an industry
get them by the jar

04-08-08
someone speaks my name
the little hairs in my ear
stand to attention

05-08-08
i’ve been gone so long
so long into the cold surf
ocean tossed me back

06-08-08
cup of tea brewing
in the other room for me
best go deal with it

07-08-08
dancing myself warm
rain drumming on the corri’
cycle never ends

08-08-08
refrigerator
houses condiments
but nothing to eat

09-08-08
the birthday party
bubbles with laughter and warmth
in clarendon mud

10-08-08
another long day
with not a single word down
wind howls at my door

11-08-08
procrastination
has me wrapped in its blankets
i should be writing

12-08-08
what is it this time?
i’ve all the world’s excuses
and none of its tears

13-08-08
come to your senses
go home again little bird
these cats mean you harm

14-08-08
the room is stuffy
the white board markers toxic
and all fast asleep

15-08-08
six early minutes
but seven stuck in traffic
who comes out ahead?
