13-05-08
ice wind off the sea
winter scratches its long claws
down my shirtless back
14-05-08
she’s all spark and fizz
her name bubbles on my tongue
pink magic-gum girl
15-05-08
dirty keys fading
the signs worn from their faces
type from memory
16-05-08
he lured me he did
with fried meat on a toothpick
i ordered the rice
17-05-08
he knew what would come
as they rode home together
his grin betrayed him
18-05-08
head droops and jerks up
sleep comes in ten second bursts
hours are needed
19-05-08
drinking screwdrivers
in a dark hindley street dive
in a grey trenchcoat
20-05-08
tuesday i’ll be good
unless there’s complications
and the fog descends
21-05-08
walking through the park
listening to tower of song
all the world is grey
22-05-08
breakfast goes down sour
the toothbrush scratches too hard
my shirt rasps my skin
23-05-08
trembling and hiding
as the world comes rushing in
reality burns
24-05-08
the slow warmth of gin
the buoyant din of the crowd
i could like it here
25-05-08
they do great chips here
pity about the burgers
you can’t win them all
26-05-08
something is wrong dear
makes my soul twist in its sleep
do you not feel it?
27-05-08
storm clouds roll in fast
when did it start to turn grey?
undetected gloom
28-05-08
rain walking man fumes
and pounces on the puddle
to splash himself calm
29-05-08
all this dust and smog
being pumped in the air ducts
has made me sickly
30-05-08
sideways park the car
use the triangle technique
stop shouting at me
01-06-08
back to work again
to face unwelcome faces
how much do they know?
02-06-08
sunshine and sand spades
children laughing in the sun
not for everyone
03-06-08
pencils and red pens
and blue cellophane wrappers
remind me of school
04-06-08
the moon disappears
and all deny it was there
ever or at all
05-06-08
i dream the wave breaks
and all the black birds swoop down
for a piece of me
06-06-08
aging on the phone
every second ticks by slow
murder this clock please
07-06-08
faces forgotten
seen in the street this morning
with a bag of greens
08-06-08
too many headaches
not enough pills to fight them
what’ll we do now?
09-06-08
six bottles of beer
seven thirsty lumberjacks
someone will go dry
10-06-08
pink curd lemonade
extension cord bondage game
and a jar of grease
11-06-08
sanity done gone
left me this box of pickles
and the telephone
12-06-08
big bear barbecue
sizzle my snake skin gold man
smear my ribs in sauce
the haiku marathon (part 5)
into my 5th month now.
for those new-comers, i’m writing a haiku a day…
or for those bubblers pedantic about what a haiku is,
my challenge is just to write something that is 5-7-5 syllables anyway.
give it a go.
