oh starlight

oh starlight shine down sad upon these waters
to bring to my eyes shimmering sparks
winking throughout the night.
oh reflected glow of white melancholy moon
infuse my soul into the ocean,
carry my longing out across dark waves,
rock my restlessness in lull of midnight sea
and maybe… just maybe…
wash me waking upon some distant shore.
let me crawl up the sands of lonely beach,
and rest,
just beyond the reach of sea and spray,
and in the light of dawning day,
i will see at last her cobalt eyes
hung above me in vast blue skies
cleansing my poor soul away.

wrote this poem some years back. thought i’d include it here to remind me of what a tragic romantic i can be at times. i was playing with assonance and meter. works best if read aloud.
