blues cures blues

what is it about the blues that lifts my spirits?

last night i was at the first annual adelaide guitar festival in elder park and, i tell you, i went there feeling down and, well, blue. but listening to slide guitar for two and a half hours under the stars and men wailing about women leaving them and running out of booze and their dogs running off on them and being dragged behind trucks by wild horses high on crack cocaine and the like, suddenly my life didn’t seem so bad after all.

the best music’s got melancholy i say. bob brozman’s animated performance even managed to put a smile on my face. aint that something. onya bob.

ah blues, you’ve done it again.

thanks for your comments. i’d love to follow that trail too, flower68, but even if i don’t… the best new blues has sprouted wings from the deep south and spread to places like hawaii, india, egypt and spain. it’s gone global, even back to mali from where it once sprang. just like it took root again in britain in the 60s.
it’s a creeper vine. that’s one of the things i love about it, even if you don’t seek it out, it comes to you.
but yeah, there’s something about the blues of the deep south that resonates. sadly so many of the blues heritage of new orleans and the landmarks and stories are gone now. may the spirit live on.
