PLEASE NOTE: This image is NOT for sale!

I have posted this image for critique and comment only. Any previous opportunity to purchase was in error.

These are part of the Ron Mueck collection that was on display at the NGV (National Gallery of Victoria) recently.

Photo by me, post production by the talented Small-lion who waved her magic wand to remove the massive “peachy” colour cast.

Inspired by Mel Brackstone to put this up for display.

‘Magic wand’ – Love it! Do I get wings and a halo as well? :D

Wonderful shot, by the way. I love the DOF.

I shot this yesterday, with a very similar DOF….surprised to notice the hairs on the chin and top lip of the lady closest! I didn’t notice that when looking at them!

  • Hi Mel, thank you for commenting..

The whole collection had the smallest details added to his sculptures if people went looking for them. It astounded me that every detail was in correct proportions, including hairs on arms being the right length, all sitting in a certain direction, pimples and blemishes, all faithfully reproduced regardless if the sculpture was 15 foot tall or 2 foot tall… Amazing work by a very talented artist.

I have a few more images taken from the collection that will eventually be added to my profile here.

I agree the details were stunning, we were finding little pimples and birth marks, along with the various goose bumps and hair. Did you see the video that showed how he built them?
Hubby and I have season tickets, so we’ll be going back a few more times….fascinating stuff!

  • Hi Mel, yes, I saw that video as well.. Again, the amount of effort and attention to detail, simply amazing… He certainly has far more patience than I have. Makes me wonder how many time he became frustrated and started over on his pieces.

The piece with the “Little Old lady in Bed” was quite heart wrenching for me personally especially having spent time with a Great Grandmother who was suffering dementia be in similar circumstances while in a nursing home.

I hope you continue to enjoy the display with your season tickets and then share your wonderful images of his work with the rest of us on RedBubble..

Guaranteed I’ll be sharing the images :) I found this today, which explains why the gallery is allowing photos. Interesting info, I think :)

  • Ahhhh, that explains it fully then..

My issue with NGV was that while the lighting was conducive for viewing by the general public, the lighting used has created a massive colour cast on the images that despite all intents was impossible for me to prevent (no flash allowed, etc) and so have been working through that with the help of Small-lion as she has far better skills in post-production than I do.

Thanks again for dropping by.. =D
