Today I went for a walk along the Morley track by the Watts River in the Yarra Ranges National Park. The sound of the river was always in my ears and occasionally I glimpsed it through the trees, but since it is in a closed catchment area – providing water for Melbourne’s dams, it was not possible to get close to it. Later, I took photos from the bridge, where it flows under the highway. This part of the national park was fairly lightly burnt by the 2009 fires because the fierce winds swept it through the forest so fast that trees were scorched and singed but did not burn very much.It will recover in a few years. The tree ferns are taking on that sad winter look, but I took some photos anyway.
Looks best enlarged.
