Bass Coast #1 by Bette Devine

In 1797, George Bass set sail from Sydney Cove in an 8.7metre whale boat to prove the existence of a strait between Tasmania and New South Wales. During this epic voyage, George bass discovered and named the first natural harbour on the southern coast, Westernport Bay.
The George Bass Coastal Walk follows the clifftops overlooking the surf of Bass Strait.
This is the first view of the ocean and the coastline from the San Remo end of the walk, which ends at Kilcunda.

Many years ago I painted. Then I realised that I did better at photography than painting – and that has been my medium of expression ever since.

A gorgeous view of what looks to be a wild and unspoiled stretch of coast. Outstanding scenic photo, Bette!

  • Thanks Celeste. As you can see, the land has been cleared almost to the cliffs, but the beaches and coves are pristine, and there is still a lot of native vegetation about.
