Many years ago I painted. Then I realised that I did better at photography than painting – and that has been my medium of expression ever since.

Hello Bette, love this! Such unusual and effective processing, and an amazing colour! Don’t think I’ve seen this plant over here, but am not a expert on flowers. Could almost pass for a type of lavender. Gorgeous!
    All the best,
    Dave ;-)

  • Thanks Dave!

P.S Just say your description, wouldn’t fancy this with new spuds (is mint and new potatoes just a Brit dish?) despite its gorgeous colour. We have a ‘Cat mint’ with purple flowers, that cats are magnetised by and usually en up sitting in the middle of the plant itself!

  • No, I would eat new suds and mint. Think of the mint family as being like a human family. You have cousins far-removed, who share some of your genes, even character characteristics, but who look nothing like you! End of lesson. :)

You captured these flower spikes at a perfect time, when they are at peak bloom and looking especially beautiful. I like your texturing, which reminds me of a refined halftone pattern. As I’m sure you may know, we have lots of this Mexican sage in Southern California. It’s a real magnet for butterflies and hummingbirds here.

  • Yes, I’m not at all surprised that this flourishes across the border! I’d love to see hummingbirds feeding from salvia….
    Thanks for your comment, Celeste.
