James Francis “Jimmy” Durante (1893 – 1980) was an American singer, pianist, comedian, and actor. His distinctive clipped gravelly speech, comic language butchery, jazz-influenced songs, and large nose helped make him one of America’s most familiar and popular personalities of the 1920s through the 1970s. His jokes about his nose included referring to it as a Schnozzola, and the word became his nickname. Durante was born on the Lower East Side of New York City. He was the youngest of four children born to Bartolomeo Durante and his bride Rosa, both of whom were immigrants from Salerno, Italy.

Ha Cha Cha! Another favorite from childhood. The song I remember most was “A Dink A Dink A Do.” I think that is the chorus part, but that’s what I remember because he gave that famous profile. Great work. :o)

  • Bunny, I included this video with the song – it’s in the description area and the final picture with the baby will crack you up. You have to see that.
Thank you so much for the great support my friend ☺

Thanks for posting this Kira, he was a great childhood memory for me! I still quote him now!
One of his best one-liners was “dats no banana lady, dats my nose!”

  • Thanks for visiting Rob, I’m glad you enjoy the picture and it brought back fun moments for you.
    I remember the one-liner. ☺
