On our recent travels through North Yorkshire recently came across this wonderful public house in Coxwold. Couldn’t understand the name though – Fauconberg Arms Inn.

The Fauconberg Arms is a 17th Century Coaching Inn in Coxwold, North Yorkshire, England.The village and estate were given to the Fauconberg family by Henry VIII. The property is still owned by the Newburgh Priory Estate and is named after the Earl of Fauconberg

This famous Inn is named after the Earl of Fauconberg, who lived at nearby Newburgh Priory, and was married to Oliver Cromwell’s daughter, Mary, who, after her father’s death in 1658, is believed to have brought her father’s body to the Priory, and that the body is still lying there, in a bricked-up vault.
The Fauconberg Arms is in the centre of the Doomsday Book village CUCVALT. The village and estate were given to the Fauconberg family by Henry VIII. Great shot Steve.
