04/01/08 – Entry to United States Group’s U.S. State’s Motto Competition [California state motto: “Eureka! (I have found it!)” / The Golden Gate Bridge has long been one of our state’s most beloved landmarks and icons, representing the Golden State’s appeal to those who seek fame, fortune, and fancy! And, being a bridge, it is a metaphor of what California’s first pioneers had to do to reach for their wildest dreams – they had to cross all sorts of metaphoric bridges! To get somewhere, we eventually have to cross a bridge of some sort. Sometimes we cannot see where the bridge ends, sometimes it is too cloudy or treacherous, and sometimes (as in the photo depicted here) the bridge seems too ominous and foreboding. Bridges, much like The Golden Gate Bridge (as seen here), represent choices and chances and the moment we come to one, we must decide whether or not we stay where we are or cross. The original pioneers knew this, of course, and they took those chances and exercised leaps of faith all in the hopes of one day being able to say “Eureka, I have found it!”
