Lake Albert, Night Reflections by

Lake Albert, Wagga Wagga, NSW, Australia. Night reflections across the lake (with some tiny star trails thrown in). Taken in Autumn, a very cold night, where also used a small light to add to the highlights on the tree in the foreground. Nikon D40X, 55-200, 30s, F4, ISO 400.

An amateur, but a long love of photography. A recent move to digital has seen the love ‘blossom’, and a greater enjoyment in the field. I will try most forms of photography, and gain both knowledge and fun out of the experimentation. Using a Nikon D300 and D7000, with a range of lenses, and filters. I hope you enjoy the views as much as I’ve enjoyed taking them.

Nicely done :) I’ve not seen Lake Albert since it was out in the sticks (compared to Wagga, I mean).. you’ve made it look quite beautiful. Must get back there again some day.

  • Thanks Sue. Yes, it’s well and truely in the suburbs now! and that’s also part of the problem – as it’s so shallow, the drainage is not going in to the lake, it was nearly dried out before the rains at the start of the year, and it will happen again.

Oh Baz thats really sad. My memories are of learning to sail in a tiny sailboat and being becalmed on the wrong side of the lake, and having to swim myself and the boat back to the right side. Wrong side was where the golf club is, and the right side was where the car and trailer were… and all my schoolmates, and teachers, thinking my predicament was just hilarious. Lake Albert wasn’t shallow at all, back then.

  • Yes, at least partly Council inaction as well. Certainly in summer I wouldn’t go in the water, often algal blooms, it’s quite badly polluted as well. Last year it was reduced to a small area in the middle and just terrible. At the moment, it’s full again, but still not deep in many parts, and another dry summer or two and it will be back to the same problem unless they do something constructive. It was so bad, one group wanted to drain the rest and convert it into a racing track! Needless to say the locals resisted that plan.
