Cathedral Cove framed print

One of the most spectacular sights amongst so many fabulous ones is Cathedral Cove and the huge cave there. Te Whanganui-A-Hei, is the Maori title. Carved by the water from the soft volcanic rock, this is one of the many examples of erosion action along this coastline. This beach and cave is reached eiher by boat, or a rather long walk from the car park at the top of Heihei beach. The cave and beach was used as the tunnel through which the Pevensie children first re-enter Narnia in the movie version of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
Nikon D40X, 10-20 Sigma.

An amateur, but a long love of photography. A recent move to digital has seen the love ‘blossom’, and a greater enjoyment in the field. I will try most forms of photography, and gain both knowledge and fun out of the experimentation. Using a Nikon D300 and D7000, with a range of lenses, and filters. I hope you enjoy the views as much as I’ve enjoyed taking them.

The water here is such a gorgeous colour Barry and the rock formations are so good

  • Thanks Kym. Yes, it’s such a beautiful place – guess a bit of bias there as it’s the Coromandel where I spent so many of my holidays surfing, so it’s got that special connection for me – but the scenery is so spectacular, and so varied in a small area.

    omG this is so beautiful!!!!!

  • Thanks heaps Tereza. It’s certainly a beautiful place. There’s a closer view of the cave in my photos, but I like this one as it shows the beach as well. The sands are a bright white, bit dull this day because of the overcast and rain!

What a gorgeous place to visit! Beautiful shot!

  • Thanks Robyn. Yes, it’s an incredible part of New Zealand – more a ‘locals’ scene than tourists, although it’s getting more well known. Being so close to Auckland, it gets very crowded in summer though.
