Cathederal Cave, New Zealand. by

In Mercury Bay, Coromandel, New Zealand. This fantastic cave is only reached via a long walk, or by boat. In summer, the beach, with its beautiful white sands, is crowded. Nikon D40X, 10-20 Sigma.

About bazcelt

An amateur, but a long love of photography. A recent move to digital has seen the love ‘blossom’, and a greater enjoyment in the field. I will try most forms of photography, and gain both knowledge and fun out of the experimentation. Using a Nikon D300 and D7000, with a range of lenses, and filters. I hope you enjoy the views as much as I’ve enjoyed taking them.

The colour of the water is just gorgeous looks like a fabulous Natural attraction to visit. I like the inclusion of the people as a comparison

  • Yes, it was just this incredible colour, would’ve been even more spectacular if it had been a fine day. It’s a fabulous region – one of my big time favourite areas in NZ. Thanks Kym.

    Verrrrrrry nice! :-)

  • Thanks Lori! It’s a beautiful spot, unfortunately this one is more focussed on the cave, I will put more up which give a view of the beach as well. The day after we were there, a huge piece of the roof collapsed and it was closed until they made sure it was safe again.

I love this place too…Can you walk on water BAZ? :)) LOL Joy

  • Yeah, my misspent youth saw a lot of time on the Coramandel surfing, so a work time over there last year managed a few days at the end to take the family to visit a few of the old haunts. Not sure about walking tho!

Just spent 10 days in this region – truly breathtaking scenery (can’t imagine why you’d leave it) the cave is re-opened although you can’t go near the walls now – roped off. Great POV – you must be able to walk on water to get this shot, or else you are tall???

  • Hi Suellent. Yeah, it’s a fantastic region – probably one of my most favourite anywhere. Unfortunately work and life move on, but whenever I ca I get back there. I have a brother in Hamilton, so have a good excuse! I wish I could, no it was a boat trip out of Whitianga. Thanks heaps for all your interest.

  • Oops! big apologies for the mistype! Trying to do marking at the same time! I see you have a PD in marine science – well done! t was an area as an undergrad I seriously wanted to do – marks precluded the option though! Had to put up with one in education instead. And thanks for the favourites as well!
