ABOUT THIS IMAGE
The Bungonia State Recreation Area is a nature reserve about a 40 minute drive from the city of Goulburn,
New South Wales Australia, featuring dramatic cliffs, gorges and a network of caves. Besides caving, it is
popular for bushwalking, camping, photography and various types of adventure activities.
On a recent RedBubble N.S.W. Rumble, we made our way in the very cool pre-dawn to “Adams Lookout”
for sunrise and subsequently to “Bungonia Lookdown”, which offer spectacular views of the Shoalhaven
River, Bungonia Gorge and Bungonia Creek.
“Don’t drop anything” were words to be heeded, as the walkways to the edge of the lookouts were of timber,
with substantial gaps between the boards. No lenses, filters or other small pieces of photographic equipment
We had not thought of the contraction of tiny metal pins in the extreme cold … and first another of our group
saw a lens fall from his glasses to the decking and a while later, I watched as if in slow motion as one of my
lenses followed suit … but unlike that of my colleague, mine continued on through a gap in the decking …
hence the title of this image … “Somewhere down there ….”
On a positive note, I always travel with a spare pair of glasses and the manufacturers are in the process of
replacing the lost graduated, transition lens (^_^)
