Common (Black) Jezebel, Delias nigrina, a newcomer to my garden on March 1st 2011,
this beauty returned several times through the following weeks to drink from the Buddleja.
I also discovered she is partial to some Callistemon and for the first time was able to capture
her partly open wings, showing the contrast.

Photographed at Batemans Bay, on the south coast of New South Wales, Australia.

butterfly, buddleja, flower, lepidoptera, black jezebel, common jezebel, delias nigrina, fivefeatures
I have always enjoyed photography and love the scope that a digital camera allows. I am retired, approaching threescore years and ten. The world around me provides endless photographic opportunities, from the abundance of nature in my own backyard to historic destinations around the world.

Gotcha! I can see you lurking behind the bushes in your garden ready to pounce at the right moment, Trish. But I like the idea of using a camera instead of a net.
Gary, these were almost as tricky to catch as the beautiful Swallowtails, but observation and perseverance, along with numerous discarded shots, eventually resulted in some “keepers”. Thanks so much for your comments ! I should imagine a net could cause considerable damage to those delicate wings.
