Australiana Challenges
Love These Creatures … July 2014

Koala enjoying his feed of fresh, tender young Eucalypt leaves at “Birdland Animal Park”
Batemans Bay, New South Wales, Australia

The word “Koala” means “no water” and these marsupials, indigenous to Australia, do not drink
but take all the liquid they need from their only food, Eucalypt leaves.

I love the endless photographic opportunities provided by world around me, from the abundance of nature in my own backyard to historic and scenic worldwide destinations.

Another one I’d love to base a painting on…Excellent

  • Thank you again for your comments and favourite. Should the occasion arise, I have others taken on the same day which also don’t show that the Koala is in captivity.

From what I’ve seen of koalas ( and remember we don’t have them in the wild in WA) they really seem not to care less that they are not in the wild. They seem so laid back and are happy just to sleep and eat. It’s not like they are prevented from running long distances, migrating, flying etc, like so many animals in captivity are.To be honest, being so slow moving (even when they run!!!) they are probably much safer from the threat of fire in captivity than they would be in the bush. Sometimes man does animals a favour, even if it wasn’t his intention…and it usually isn’t…
