The World … April 2013

I discovered this fungus growing on the side of a Eucalypt stump in my backyard at Denhams Beach,
New South Wales, Australia
in March 2013. I have never come across one like it before and in spite
of hours of internet searching, I was not able to identify it. My thanks to Carla for identifying Boletus
emodensis
.

The circular shape is similar to that of a mushroom, with a 6cm diameter across the pink rough looking
textured cap. The undersurface is bright yellow, with a “sponge like” appearance. The stem has a
diameter of about 1.5cm and is a little longer than the diameter of the cap.

It must be it’s time of year to show where you are….this is the 2nd I’ve seen in our ID Me ~Nature Only group :o) This I BELIEVE is Boletus emodensis. They love eucalyptis trees

  • One can always rely on you Carla to come up with an answer from your vast knowledge of the world of fungi. Thank you very much !

Dunno what it’s called but it would make a lovely tea cozy. Were you a forensic scientist in your last life, Trish?

  • Seems it is a Boletus emodensis … and you’re quite right, it would make a great tea cozy for all the Elves and Fairies that live in the bottom of my garden :) I can’t remember what I was in my last life, but had I been born 20 odd years later I might have been a forensic scientist in this life … in my next I will be a bird I think … how about you?
