This is a fantastic image, you captured the moment perfectly! I’m sure the bride and groom will be thrilled with your work! Well done! I hear ya on the nerve wrecking – the last wedding I did gave me a migraine, I don’t really do them any more cause they stress me out too much. LOL!

  • Basia McAuley replied

Thank you so much! Yes,, it’s a stressful job! But, I must say I’m finding the processing of these photos just as bad since my computer is suuuuper slooooow!..

  • RebeccaT

Well…I would never guess that this was your first wedding…or that you were in any way stressed…this is a FANTASTIC capture! What perfect timing. I’ve done a few weddings and have never been able to get this angle for the “first kiss” shot…darn officiant is always in the way…how did you get this?!

  • Basia McAuley replied

Thanks Rebecca! I asked the priest before the ceremony if I can jump in behind him and he was lovely enough to agree :o)

Great image Basia, see all went well. This is so timeless also, I love the POV and knew you would make it ‘different’ from all the others I’ve seen, you didn’t disappoint me!!!

  • micklyn

Beautiful, Basia. Looking forward to seeing more of them. Re the slow computer, I am struggling with the same… have decided patience it the only way forward – I set it to a task and then go and do something that needs doing and come back when its done, or I sit with a novel and read between tasks! Frustrating, though, isn’t it?

It’s no fun doing wedding photography!!
    This is wonderful!

  • Basia McAuley replied

Thank you Neil,, I guess it was easier as it was a good friend of mine so after working hard all day,, we then partied all night :o)

  • Taylor Sawyer

    Taylor Sawyer

Very nice! Gutsy to be where you were though. I always ask my clients how far they want me to stay out of hte “audience’s” site.

  • Basia McAuley replied

Thanks Taylor,, we did discuss this angle before and they really wanted this to be done if possible.

  • Taylor Sawyer

    Taylor Sawyer

Awesome! I would love a couple to work with me like that! Otherwise its all uncomfortable trying to get the shots they want at the angle that they want but still remain conspicuous to the crowd….I dont know how they expect me to do that!

  • Basia McAuley replied

I agree,, this was a friend so it was easier in that way but whatever I’m photographing, I always go through the poses & angles first so everyone knows what can & can’t be done..

  • Taylor Sawyer

    Taylor Sawyer

Usually for the best “during ceremony” shots, I have to get them to reenact it. Like exchanging the rings and so on and so forth. They are usually ok with that, but sometimes I just wanna get whats going on then!

  • Basia McAuley

    Basia McAuley

Hey, I didn’t think of that! All the shots I got were one and only takes!! Ohh,, I have soooo much to learn!!

  • Angela Stewart

    Angela Stewart

Wow Basia…this is a fabulous capture! I also shot my first wedding on Saturday, but wasn’t fortunate enough to get an angle like this one! I’m looking forward to seeing what else you got…I imagine they’re all beautiful :)

  • Basia McAuley replied

Thank you Angela! I’ll put a journal up in the next couple of days (my pc’s super slow so it’s taking a long time!) I would love to see some of your images from Sat,, I’m sure they are beautiful!

Excellent shot Basia – nice to see the ‘guests’ in the background rather than the usual shot of the couple at the alter. Wedding photography is very stressful but very rewarding. I’m sure the bride and groom will be very happy with their photos.

A stunningly beautiful bridal capture that looks great in mono and a wonderfully refreshing change to see the action from this side of proceedings, Basia !!! Wonderful work and on this image alone you should get lots of future work !!

  • Basia McAuley replied

Thanks so much Phil!!!! I’m so glad you like it! I liked doing the shoot on the day but the post processing is killing me so I don’t know if I really want to do too many weddings! I have more of the wedding images on my site if you want to see :o) Take care.

And i know what you mean with nerve wrecking – I did a wedding only once, but at that time with an analog camera. I metered once and shot the whole thing on manual setting. God, I was so relieved to see that the pictures came out well ;o)

Great angle, perfect timing and beautiful B & W post processing. Re: Slow computer, which software are you using? RAW batch processing on Capture NX can be painfully slow, that’s why I switched to Adobe Lightroom and haven’t looked back. However, if your computer is very old, switching software packages might not make much of a difference.

  • Basia McAuley replied

Thanks jrdesign,,, I don’t use Capture NX for RAW processing and it’s still slow,, I’m in the process of looking into lightroom as I’ve heard it’s good :o)
