In progress - Cavern of the Dragon-tongued Tendrils - part 1

This was a piece that I did the watercolor work on a few weeks ago and am just now getting around to the ink work. The piece is highly experimental and interpretive so I won’t talk to much about it also I’m largely making this one up as I go…

The background colors are guiding me here. I am feeling like the green areas will transition from the carved stone work into plant-esque doodles which will be tipped in red at the ends, to contrast the purple. I think…

In Progress - Guitar Notes Commission - Part II

This is the second part of the SG200 Electric Guitar picture in my Crazy Notes Series which is being done as a commission for a fan here in Oregon.

Started on the headstock outlines and working on the tuners.

Headstock is pretty much wrapped up. I couldn’t resist adding my classic broken string although I haven’t finished the other strings yet.

Got the first note added….

In Progress - Guitar Notes Commission - Part I

I recently picked up my first commission work from a fan at the Tualatin Art Splash show. He wanted me to draw a picture of his Yamaha SG2000 electric guitar – a very lovely and classic guitar by the way. So he sent me some pictures and we discussed colors, poses, etc.…

Now the fun begins….

The first step was to lightly draw the outlines of the guitar and it’s various parts. Then I apply rubber drawing-gum to masque out white areas. Here the background colors have been added. Plastic wrap lends a hand with creating bleeds and lines.

Here you can see the drawing gum lines a little better. When the gum is removed it will leave only white, un-painted paper behind.

After painting the main body colors some additional watercolor work was added to create the black back of the body, pick guard, an

Tualatin Art Splash - Sold my first original

Getting back to work this morning after being at the annual Tualatin Art Splash show and sale on Saturday and Sunday. It was a pretty epic weekend according to the organizers and they were thrilled to see all the support from the local Art community not to mention the record-setting sales that the 50+ artists netted.

I wanted to throw up a Thank You note to everyone who visited with me at my booth this weekend. I met some great individuals and couples and I am so appreciative of those who took some of my work home.

In particular, a special thanks to the wonderful couple from Tigard, OR who lovingly purchased the original pencil drawing of Uke Bear. It meant a lot to me knowning how much you liked the piece and I know it I will be loved in it’s knew home…

The "Just Married" series, Part 2...

I was checking my e-mail this morning and found that the RedBubble editors are featuring the second piece in my “Just Married” series on the home page. So I figured I should throw up this journal entry and explain a little about the second piece in the series entitled, ‘Cave Couple’.…

These fantasy drawings of couples are inspired by real life to some degree. I have a very fond memory of when my wife and I were dating – we went caving in Colorado on our road trip to the west coast. An exploration into a cave is an ominous allegory to a marriage but I think it can be bent to be in a positive light. Perhaps it symbolizes the journey inward that we take together, digging deeper into each other to find the secret’s that are below the surface, possibly unearthing a spring of emotions…

Here we

The "Just Married" series, Part 1...

After getting married a few years ago and beginning to see my friends and family going down similar paths I got to thinking – what would I want to tell others about joy and marriage and making a relationship work?

In my ruminating over the topic I took pen and watercolor to paper and I started creating the Up an Away Couple. I wanted to remind future couples that they should always remember how much fun one another can be. Make joyous times whenever possible and leave happy memories everywhere you go. So this first free-wheeling, hot-air-balloon couple lays the ground work for a series of pictures about fun-loving couples embarking on the new adventure that will be the-rest-of-their-lives.

Squawk! - Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays to all of you RedBubble.com folks – I’ve had a really fun Holiday season so far and I hope the same goes for you, and on into the new year.

The Pteranodon of Christmas is the first of what I hope to be an annual Holiday Dinosaur series. I had a great response to it at the shows and made I gave a lot of copies out to grinning kids with Raptors and Tyrannosaurs on their shirts.

Signed my first colabortive rights agreement!

I’ve been working with a gentlemen here in Oregon who I hooked up with via Craigslist ads. He sold several of my prints in his storefront over the past summer, leaving us both happy with the sales.

I finished the Up and Away piece a few months ago and as soon as he saw it he started raving about the possibilities. So now a few weeks later we have finally signed a collaborative rights agreement on the series!

The agreement simply establishes a 50/50 partnership in any offshoot media that he or I generate on the series. So if he drums up some interest in a screenplay based on the images then I own 50% of that.

It’s exciting to see someone willing to get behind your work and willing to hammer an agreement that benefits both parties. Jah!
