A horse is the projection of peoples’ dreams about themselves – strong, powerful, beautiful – and it has the capability of giving us escape from our mundane existence.
Pam Brown
There are many ways to paint. There are many ways to see…….the paintings that I make come from my heart. Each piece is another attempt to show the grace, beauty and power of the horse. Every painting gives the viewer a guide but not all the information, the veiwer must contribute to the piece by creating some of the story contained in the image for themselves.
My equine paintings express my fascination with humankind’s relationship with the horse. The horse has been pivotal in advancing civilizations throughout the world. The art of many cultures portray the horses bond with mankind throughout the course of history. The horse symbolizes our journey through life, whether that be through physical travel or the journey of the spirit.
In my work I am not so concerned that the painting be an exact recording of what “horse” looks like (although some paintings are more realistic than others). Rather I am striving to be a conduit to communicate the message that horse has to give us. As I paint, I try to let my mind stay open without judging the images that appear to me and the words that sometimes accompany them.
