The idea came to me on seeing several horses in a field with one seeming to stand guard over the rest. I chose four horses from the group I thought would fit the composition best and a chose a background. I reduced saturation of the trees and opacity and added the bird. I made a few alterations to the background to keep the eye moving to the right places. A more detailed description is available if you would like it.
