Between Mars and Jupiter in our solar system lies the Asteroid belt. Though the name asteroid implies a piece of a star, many speculate that these irregular “space rocks” may be the debris from an extinct planet that met some violent end, perhaps a collision with another celestial body.

Created in Apophysis 7x v14 following this tutorial in the Apophysis Tutorial Fun group. Rendered as a .png file, then blended with duplicate layers and a black background, color adjusted and supernova added in GIMP v2.6, then saved in .jpg format, finally scaled up in UF. Number 24 in a series of images generated with the instructions in this tutorial called Escher Stained Glass by dA’s SaTaNiA (Damien), using Julia3D (power 4) and sinusoidal in the final transform. Best if viewed larger.

    Gorgeous image and congratulations!

  • Thank you so much, Glenn! I see you have a great folder of NC images, and I live in Chapel Hill. Do you also live in NC, or was that just from a visit? Best, David

Howdy David, lived in Charlotte for several years, decades ago. Friends moved up there and we visit as often as possible. Smokeys, Boone, Grandfather’s Mountain, Cades Cove and a million places I’ve missed and all totally magnificent! Congratulations on being there!!!!!!!!!!

  • Glad you at least get to visit now and then. I just got back from a nice vacation trip driving a great 3000 mile route from Vegas to SF to San Diego to Phoenix to the Grand Canyon and back to Vegas last month…hope to post some of the photos, but making fractals always seems like more fun… Thanks again for your comments, and hope you’ll enjoy some of my other images, David
