Science Fiction writers have often speculated that if time travel were possible, interacting with one’s future or past self could alter the space-time continuum and cause a cataclysmic event that might “destroy the fabric of the universe”. The same result has been mentioned for improperly mixing matter and anti-matter. Here is my vision of what that might look like…

Created in Apophysis 7x v14 following this tutorial in the Apophysis Tutorial Fun group. Rendered as a .png file, then blended with duplicate layers and a black background, color adjusted and augmented with supernovae in GIMP v2.6, then saved in .jpg format, finally scaled up in UF. Number 21 in a series of images generated with the instructions in this tutorial called Escher Stained Glass by dA’s SaTaNiA (Damien), using Julia3D (power2) and Separation in the final transform. Best if viewed larger.

My concept of a tear in the fabric of the universe could be symbolized by the splitting of a black hole. But, the challenge would be difficult to portray, don’t you think? Lol Nice work. Pete

  • Yes, that was my first attempt, but as you suggest, it was all black (lol). Thanks, Pete! Best, David

    Awesome!

  • Thanks, Kathleen! This month’s devastating tornadoes have provided an all-too-real local example of this concept…another example that “fantasy is better than reality”…I’ll be roaming the West next month, hope all will be well out there for my vacation. Best, David

I’ve just been checking up on last night’s tornadoes. One of them touched down a few miles away from where my son and his family live, in Sweetwater, Tennessee. This is terrible, freakish weather for Spring.

This is such a fascinating concept! Hope you’ll enter our challenge at Cutting Edge, Enigmas of the Cosmos!

  • Thank you for the invitation, Nadya! And may I say that your Challenge Banner, “There Goes the Neighborhood” is excellent work!!! Best regards from a vacationing artist (if it’s Monday, this must be Monterrey, CA)…
