Featured 3/11/11 in Flame Apophysis
Featured 4/29/11 in Brain Science, Brain Arts

A combination assembled in GIMP v2.6 of several images created in Apophysis 7x v14 starting with variations in BD’s Rectangles and Curls flame pack posted on dA
Colors slightly adjusted in MS Picture Manager and final image scaled up in UF. Best if viewed larger.

Prepared as a possible entry in a scientific art contest to be held later this month. This contest and exposition, held two previous years but then limited to actual laboratory images, was significant in inspiring my interest in fractal and digital art.

It’s getting to the point where I’m no fun anymore,
and I am sorry.
Sometimes it hurts so badly I must cry out loud,
‘I am not lonely.’
I am yours, you are mine, you are what you are,
you make it hard.

Remember what we’ve said, and done and felt about each other, oh babe, have mercy, mercy.
Don’t let the past, remind us of what we are not now – no way,
I am not dreaming.
I am yours, you are mine, you are what you are
You make it hard (4x)

Friday evening, Sunday in the afternoon, what have you got to lose?
Tuesday morning, please be gone, I’m tired of you what have you got to lose?
Can I tell it like it is, listen to me baby-
it’s my heart that’s a suffering, it’s a-dying and that’s what I got to lose.

Chestnut brown canary, ruby throated sparrow,
sing a song, don’t be long, thrill me to the marrow.

Lacy, lilting lyric, losing love lamenting. Change my life, make it right, be my lady

Beautiful, very well rendered work. Love the ocean colors

  • Dank je wel, Thea! Three completely different Apo gradients used, but I “tuned” each one to my eye, with a specific preference for the light blue (our school color) in hopes it will influence the judging :o)

    Cool!! . . .

  • Thanks, Hugh!! Had the hardest time figuring out the “Flip” function in GIMP so I could make sure this was a perfect mirror image, but hopefully I won’t forget how to do it in the future (select and copy half of the visible image, paste onto a blank transparent layer, select the WHOLE layer, activate the flip tool, flip the layer, then merge with a layer that just has the unflipped half)…bet this is easier in PS… :o)

What a magical beauty David. Well done.

  • Thanks, Bunny! I hope it will do well at the art exhibition…it will be going up against electron micrographs of nanoparticles and insect legs…truly “weird science” – hope they’ll like fractals :o)))

    Beautiful work David!

  • Thanks so much, Jackie! Now that I know where to download all these cool flamepacks from (dA)it is a whole lot easier to tweak them than to build a good image from these tutorials, although both are great learning experiences. Have a great weekend – I just suffered/exalted through UNC’s ACC tournament game; hope I can live through two more :-)

I know what you mean. Prior to the tutorials, that was the only way I did my fractals. I don’t know if I can do that again. I am having way too much fun with the tuts and doing my stuff from scratch. :)

    Amazing! Great work!

  • Thanks so much! I put a lot into this one, hoping it will do well in the competition for which I designed it. Best, David
