Artist's Description

Using GIMP v2.8, I “installed” the original model “Zap Band” onto the light housing of Bug’s Eye View of a Streetlight, thereby creating WIP#4 for a translation I am doing in the Solo Minimalism Workshop

The next WIP (work in progress) will reveal at least a hint of the purpose of this “Zap Band”. Technically, this was created by selecting a thin, elongated trapezoidal area and filling it with a portion of a built-in GIMP color gradient. The slightly tricky part was making the mouse “drag line” (for applying the gradient in linear mode) exactly perpendicular to the selection region, and also make it extend just the right amount beyond both sides to get just the metallic color portion of the gradient that I wanted. It took about a dozen tries (almost 5 minutes!). In hindsight, it now occurs to me that if I had computed the equation of one of the long lines of the trapezoid using the screen pixel indicator coordinates, it would have been a lot easier to aim for perpendicular. Oh well, at least I’m finally using some of that geometry I studied 45 years ago :o)))

An interesting coincidence, but this is not quite the kind of Zap Band I had in mind:
