Wood Spirit by Scot Howden
The ‘Wood Spirit’ is trying to help restore the balance of nature by encouraging new growth. She’s not too happy about the felled tree and the fact that her undertaking is becoming an increasingly difficult task but she is determined. I wanted this to be evident in her intense expression and piercing stare.

Thank you. The Ivy frame was an afterthough. I wasn’t sure how the border would turn out so before painting it in I did a mock using a scan of my painting, photshop and photos of real Ivy.

Oh wow, thisis my fave of yours… I love her gaze. She seems ‘contained/centred’ within – I like how you have her offering rebirth from death… this feels to me that it is the cycle of life… I think would be sadder if there was no ‘new life’ featured, so I like how this is at least offering the promise of the future…
