I believe this is a male Red Bellied Woodpecker because of the red all the way to the top of its head. The females only have red color up to the back bottom portion of their head. We live in a clearing in the Mark Twain national Forest so even though there are a lot of these birds about in the forest I don’t normally see them near our feeders at our home here in Southeast Missouri*

Yep, it’s a male. They get used to you and trust you after awhile. I always say “Hi red” and he grumbles something back, grabs his seed and fly’s away and always comes back. Nice sharp image with perfect DOF.

  • Thank you very much Gregg, he doesn’t come around every day, maybe one or two days a week.
