Artist's Description

NOTE: This little bird looks very similar to the Female Purple Finch but the Purple finch does not have the greenish yellow wing feathers. We do not usually see the Pine Siskin in Southeast Missouri as their range is further north..

The Female Purple Finch is not a brilliantly colored as the male but very beautiful in her own way. . These birds forage in trees, shrubs and weeds. They mainly eat seeds, plant parts and some insects. In winter, they often feed in mixed flocks including American Goldfinches. (Source ~ Backyard Bird Identification)
