The Male Ruby Throated Hummingbird is a tiny amazing bird. When you look at this image you may wonder why it is called a Ruby Throated Hummingbird. The feathers on its throat look black! It is strange how these feathers change color from ruby red to black when viewed from the front or the side. You can see a hint of the ruby color in this one. This is a dominant male and rules the roost here at our home in Southeast Missouri. It hangs around the feeder and chases off any other hummer that comes near, male or female.
