Guess Who Is Back??? by barnsis

I knew my ruby throated hummingbirds would be arriving soon in their northern migration so I put my feeder out a couple of days ago. They always get here in Southeast Missouri around the 15th of April. Sure enough, right on schedule, yesterday there was the first little lady of the season.

what a great capture, bro…. she looks nice and healthy after her long trip!! did she bring her family, or was she alone? I really like the movement in this one, yet, it’s frozen in time… just goes to show how fast they are able to flap their wings!

  • Thank you Sis, She is the only one I have seen so far and I was lucky to get as good a shot of her as I did. They are usually a little wary when they first get here. They say they come back to the same area each year so I am sure there will be a bunch of them soon.

Beautiful Bryon! Nice to see them again. If your females are showing up around the 15th you should try putting your feeders out a couple of weeks earlier as the males always show up around ten days earlier. ~Sam

  • Thank you Sam, both sexes seem to show up here about the same time??
