A Rare Event ~ Six American Blue Jays ~ two Male Cardinals ~ two Female Cardinal and a lone Dark-Eyed Junco gather around the large bird feeder we have down near the lake in front of our home in Southeast Missouri, USA. The birds that come to this feeder are hogs and scatter seed all over the ground around the feeder. These birds have gathered to eat the scattered seed on the ground. It is not unusual to see two or three Jay birds playing around in the yard. It is not rare to see three or four Cardinals fluttering around and the little Juncos are all over. However to see this many all together in this small space is very unusual. The Jays and Cardinals are both very territorial and rarely tolerate each other.

WOW!! How lucky for you! I’ve had a Cardinal and a Blue Jay on my feeder at the same time but never in this quantity….of course, you live in the perfect setting! Great for you and wonderful capture, dear bro!
Thank you Sis, I think maybe it was because the snow was coming and you know birds and animals can sense weather changes
Lovely capture Byron ! I guess they were too hungry and well enough spaced to not bother about rivalries at the time. Many of our native birds have similar “pecking orders” and the only time I have seen most unlikely “companions” sharing the birdbath, was on an extremely hot day when they were all suffering heat exhaustion.

Great shot! You’d be surprised how many Cardinals and Jays we get at one time in the spring. I’ll have to try and get a picture.
Thank you, I have seen three Jays and a wood pecker together like this but never this many.

I have so many here! They fight all the time and then the finches run them out! Great shot!
I have so many finches they could gang up on any other species. Thank you.
