The Law of Nature Collage ~ Warning, may be disturbing to some by

Posted by request of my Sister from Virginia ?

Four shot collage of a large hawk flying away with its morning catch. This series of images of a large hawk flying away with a full grown rabbit in its talons was taken through the car windshield as I got to the Bridges Golf Course where I play each week in Columbia Illinois.

I always drive with my camera sitting on the seat beside me. Often to the chagrin of some of my friends here on Redbubble and some of my followers on Facebook. I do shoot images while driving! Honestly, I just point and shoot instead of looking through the viewfinder and focusing so it is not as dangerous as it may seem. I miss a lot of shots that are not well framed but I get some interesting ones also. I was nearly stopped ~ maybe 5 mph ~ when I took these shots.

The hawk was on the ground right beside the drive way into the golf course and flew up when I approached. Imagine my surprise when I saw a full grown rabbit hanging from its talons.

Nikon D40X with Nikon 300mm VR lens on auto ~ hand held.

Great captures. While it’s kinda disturbing it’s not like it’s loose dogs senselessly killing, it’s a wild animal surviving by hunting and eating. I feel bad for the rabbit but happy for the hawk…that is the way of nature.

  • Thank you, I am fairly sure this is one of the pair I have posted images of recently. I am confident they are nesting and raising young in the woods near the club house because I have seen both of them four times now in the same area. .

Amazing series Byron, and how special that you were able to capture the moment. They are usually so flighty, at least ours are.

  • Thank you, they are usually very wary here also but I have gotten images of one or both of the pair three weeks in a row.
