A Little Close For Comfort!! by

I took nearly 50 images of the storm last night but all of the lightning was high in and behind the clouds. It was a night of bright flashing cloudy skies until suddenly this one came down and struck just over the hill from our home here in Southeast Missouri. I bet there is a dead tree or two in the woods there now.

If you look closely you can see the waves of energy between the two lightning strikes!!

Nikon D40X with Nikon 300mm VR lens set on manual focus with lens and camera. Time delay 45 seconds. Focal length 70mm ~ f4.6 ~ ISO 100

This is so scary! I hope both of you are okay!!

  • You think this is scary you should have herd the loud snap when it struck, more like something braking than thunder.

wow, bro… this looks waaaaay too close for comfort!!! an excellent capture… but not sure it’s wise for you to be outside when it’s lightning that close! a bolt like the one on the right could fry your brains!

  • You know my brains were fried a long time ago☺☺ I was sitting inside the dining room shooting out the door to the deck so I was safe and it is farther than it looks here. Thank you sis.

Wow, that is very close! I rarely witness this living in such a forested area! Beautiful capture!

  • Thank you, all the lightning strikes last night were coming straight down, this is the only good one I got.
