This Red Kangaroo lives in a large field with a 12 foot fence around it about 7 miles from our home here in Southeast Missouri. You can see from the two 5 foot gates near where it is standing how tall the enclosure is. There is also a much smaller Eastern Grey Kangaroo living in the same field.

I stopped and asked the son of the family if I could take pictures of this guy one day previously. He said sure but don’t go in the field. He told me that his mom could go in with the Kangaroo and even pet him but if he or his father went in side where it was it would attack them. He said that it had put his father in the hospital once.

I stopped in my car across the road, didn’t get out but was shooting through the window. He noticed me and began to move toward the fence, stopping ever few feet to rip grass from the ground then stand tall and scatter the grass in the air. No Way Would I Try To Get In The Field With This Big Guy, he is taller than I am, and very aggressive!!

Great shot Byron. They are big boys and stand very tall. Not to be messed with. He could easily cause you serious injury or death. Beautiful animal though. Lucky you are to have them so close. I hope they are cared for well over there.

  • I am not sure how tall he is when standing like this but I am guessing between 7 & 8 feet by comparison with the gates which I know are 5 foot tall. He was very obviously not happy that I was there.

Easily he would stand that tall!

  • I had looked it up there to be sure of the name but it didn’t say anything about the aggression this one shows. It might be from the lack of a real mate.

Wow an amazing story and such a great capture, he sure looks like he means business. Don’t blame you for staying in the car.

  • Thank you Andrea

to be that big, he sure looks like he has a little head…. kinda like the emu or ostrich…. usually little head little brain… i would be extra careful around this big guy…. he looks none too happy with you! Take care, my friend….

  • Not to worry, you can not really see in this image but this guy has claws like a lion and that is just on his upper limbs they are even bigger on the hind legs. I would not even get close to the fence. Thanks sis

Fancy him living in Missouri!! Yes they can really really hurt!! I had a wallaby who I helped raise after his mother was killed and he used to come up when I was hanging things on the clothes line and kick my stomach. He was only a little fella.

  • Yes, he does in fact live in Missouri☺ He is a big one, they also have other animals, even a camel???
