This Katydid showed up on my deck here near the middle of November. We have had very mild weather so far this year but the Katydid was very slow moving and obviously near the end of its life. It is still a beautiful and unique insect.
This is dedicated to my friend Marleia Main who does such awesome macro photography of insects. If you have not seen her work please visit here page, her images are truly stunning.

great photo, my friend… you know, i don’t think i have ever seen a katydid, except in photos…. but they are well camouflaged, i might have seen one, and didn’t know that i was… do they jump like grasshoppers? it’s a beautiful creature… thanks for sharing it … love the DOF… barb

  • Yes they jump and fly also, it had flown up on my second story deck. This one was on its last leg so it let me pose it for these shots. They will usually not let you get this close.

What a lovely capture of this tiny Singer Katydids, crickets and grasshoppers have been much on my mind this past week… I’ve been trying to spend extra time outside listening to their songs. They grow quieter as Winter draws closer, and I know, soon, we will all be wrapped in the silence of that season. I always miss their sweet sounds by February. The woven texture works beautifully as a background for the vivid green of the Katydid, beautiful!

    :) wishing you laughter

  • Thank you, the woven texture is is my foot stool for my outside furniture on the deck.

What a cool looking little bug. It was frighten the life out of me if I could see it in the flesh though – I would drop the camera :)

  • This one is over an inch long, quite large actually, it was so slow moving that I could pick it up and sit it were I wanted to shoot from. { :>)
