Fording the White Water River by

There are many places in our part of Southeast Missouri that are only accessible by using fords (not the truck – the road through the stream) to cross the streams. Often farm fields can only be accessed by taking your equipment across stream fords like this one.

Nikon D40X with Nikon 300 mm VR lens.

wow… if i tried to do that with my car.. i would be sitting in the middle of the stream!! very nice capture… i guess you had already crossed it …Do they come in with rocks or something to make the bottom of the river more solid? i would think that the truck would get stuck… phabulous photo

  • Yes you would be stuck. The truck is four wheel drive and jacked up so that makes a difference. The river is all gravel and rock bottom so all you have to do is find a place that is shallow enough with banks that are not to steep and you can ford the stream.

Great shot. I find these fords fascinating. I found a small one down South in the UK, and sat at it for hours, just watching the cars ploughing on through [very few and far between]. A dog came a long, out on his walk, and was running free – he used the bridge :)

  • We have quite a few of them around here on the gravel roads.

some people do this when flashfloods come and get stuck………..

  • Not in this river, it gets really wild., sometimes washes out the concrete low water bridges.
