Local rumor and history says this is the ghost of a woman who was a nurse here at the State Hospital for the Incurable Insane in Bartonville Illinois. According to historical documents one night all of her family (husband and children) were killed in an auto accident while driving to pick her up from work during a bad snow storm. After this tragedy and because of it, she lost her mind and became a patient at the institution where she had worked as a nurse. She eventually died there. She has reportedly been see as a ghost presence quite regularly ever since that time.

The question of this being a real person’s image or that of a ghost or spirit’s image is answered by the fact that there could not have been a real person in that window on the third floor of the building on that day. No individuals were allowed beyond the first floor of the building on that day or at any other time except for the owners of the building. Due to the damaged condition of the building all access to all upper levels is barricaded to ensure the safety of those visiting and working in the building. This was required by the City Safety and Building Codes.

The most obvious conclusion that can be drawn is that this is an image of a spirit entity of some sort. The presence in the window appears to be a nurse and a ghost or spirit; this is concluded by the white apparel they appear to be wearing and the fact that you can see the shape of the door way on the other side of the room through the image of the person. It is obviously a female. This is a real image not a photoshop created work, it is not a fake image in any form.

On the day the image was taken there were volunteers working at cleanup and restoration on the first floor of the Bowen Building which is the latest of a long list of names for this building . It has been verified that no one went beyond or attempted to go upstairs past the barricades that blocked the stairs.
