We had freezing rain most of today and the wild birds at our feeders here at our home in Southeast Missouri were crazy. They were ice covered, very aggressive to each other and generally acting weird. We were sitting in the living room when we herd loud thumps from the front of the house. When we went to look we found two Dark-Eyed Junco and a Male Cardinal sitting on the deck furniture in the freezing rain. They had hit the large dining room window so hard they left feather stuck to the glass. I went outside and picked them up, they were too stunned to fly, and brought them in the house. I dried the ice off of them and held them gently while they warmed up the release them back into the cold. This little Junco was hurt to badly and didn’t survive I am sad to say.
