Artist's Description

A male red-bellied woodpecker looks like it is praying or contemplating but it is actually looking down into a crack in the log it is sitting on at the sunflower seed it has placed there so the crack will hold it while it pecks the shell to open it. Taken at our home in Southeast Missouri.

Nikon D90 with Nikkor 300mm VR lens on auto focus
